Everyone has the right to information about his or her personal data in the Schengen Information System (SIS) and the right to request the erasure of personal data unlawfully stored in the SIS.

The Schengen Information System (SIS) was established on behalf of all Member States to ensure the effective control of persons crossing the external borders of the European Union. The SIS is an electronic database used by the Member States of the Schengen area to exchange information on persons, objects and security threats. Personal data may only be accessed by authorised persons in accordance with the purposes defined by the law.

Based on Article 53 of the Regulation (EU) No 2018/1861 and Article 67 of the Regulation (EU) 2018/1862 every data subject shall have the right to information on personal data concerning him or her, which are entered in the SIS. Every person also has the right to request the rectification of inaccurate personal data stored in the SIS and the right to request the erasure of personal data stored unlawfully in the SIS. The procedures for exercising these rights in Slovenia are regulated in more detail by the Personal Data Protection Act (ZVOP-2) and the Act on the Protection of Personal Data in the Field of Criminal Offences (ZVOPOKD).

The Schengen Information System is an electronic database containing information on specific individuals who are prohibited from entering the Schengen area, individuals who are wanted for arrest or extradition, missing persons and objects such as stolen vehicles, vessels, aircraft and documents, money, weapons, marked money originating from criminal offences, etc. Access to the data is granted to the police performing border control and procedures with foreigners, administrative units issuing permits for foreigners, consular missions issuing visas, administrative units and authorised companies for the registration of motor vehicles.
