Change of residence, residence registration: Registration, deregistration of temporary residence / temporary address abroad

Temporary residence is the address in the Republic of Slovenia where an individual resides temporarily. A temporary address abroad is the address that an individual indicates when they temporarily settle abroad. An individual may have one temporary residence in the Republic of Slovenia or one temporary address abroad.

An individual (a citizen or a foreign national with a permanent residence permit) who temporarily resides away from their permanent residence address in the Republic of Slovenia yet not with a landlord or host, and will reside at this address for more than 90 days must register their temporary residence with the administrative unit in whose territory they are registering their temporary residence.

An individual with permanent residence in Slovenia who temporarily settles abroad for more than 90 days (for example, for work or study) must register their temporary address abroad with any administrative unit or diplomatic representation or consular post of the Republic of Slovenia abroad.

Citizens of Slovenia who have registered a temporary address abroad are defined as expatriates.

Registration or re-registration of temporary residence

Temporary residence must be registered within eight days of the day of taking up temporary residence. Temporary residence is registered for a period of up to two years or for the period of validity of the temporary residence permit, residence registration certificate or long-stay visa if this is shorter than two years.

Temporary residence must be registered again before its cessation if the individual is to continue temporarily residing at the address after the expiry of the period. The temporary residence must be deregistered no later than eight days after moving away or before moving away, stating the date of departure.

If you want a temporary residence registration certificate, you must indicate this in your application.

Registration, change and deregistration of temporary address abroad

An individual who will temporarily reside abroad (for more than 90 days) must register their temporary address abroad with the competent authority (administrative unit, local authority or diplomatic representation or consular post of the Republic of Slovenia abroad) no later than 15 days after taking up residence and a change of the temporary address abroad no later than 15 days after the change. The temporary address may also be registered before taking up residence abroad provided that the date of taking up residence is provided upon registration. Temporary address abroad is registered for a period not longer than four years. In the case of longer residence at the same temporary address abroad, the individual must register the temporary address abroad again before the end of said period. The temporary address must be deregistered no later than 15 days after moving away or before moving away, stating the date of departure.

If you want a certificate of registration of your temporary address abroad, you must indicate this in your application.
