Certificates and extracts: Extract from the register of deaths

An extract is a public document of the death of an individual, issued on the basis of an entry in the civil register.

The civil register records all deaths of Slovenian citizens, regardless of the place of death in Slovenia or abroad, and all deaths of foreign citizens in the territory of the Republic of Slovenia.

An extract from the register of deaths can be requested by:

  • immediate family members (spouse or partner, cohabiting partner or partner in a non-formal civil union, children and parents),
  • legal heirs of the first and second order of succession, if the deceased person has no surviving immediate family members,
  • other persons, if a legitimate interest is demonstrated in the use of the personal data and if the deceased's immediate family members do not object.


The extract includes the following data:

  • surname and first name and of the deceased,
  • date and place of death,
  • personal identification number (PIN),
  • gender,
  • date and place of birth,
  • last permanent residence,
  • surname and first name of spouse,
  • Spouse's personal identification number (PIN) (or date of birth)

Application for extract from the Register of Deaths

An extract can be issued on a domestic form for use in Slovenia or on a multilingual international form for use abroad.
