Death: Report of death

The death of a person who died in the territory of the Republic of Slovenia must be reported within two days from the date of death.

Death must be reported to the administrative unit in the area where the person died within two days of death. The report of death must be accompanied by a death certificate issued by the doctor who established the death.

Death in a health care institution


The death of a person who died in a health care institution, home for elderly citizens, military barracks, tourist-guest facility, institution for serving prison sentences or other accommodation facility, organisation or institution must be reported to the competent authority by the institution or organisation in which the person died.


Death at home or outside a health care institution


If the person died outside health care or other institutions or at home, death must be reported by the medical examiner or doctor who established the death, family members or those with whom the deceased lived. The report of death must be accompanied by a death certificate issued by the doctor who established the death.


Death abroad


The death of a citizen of the Republic of Slovenia abroad is entered in the central register in the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of an extract from the central register of the competent foreign authority.


Declaring a person dead


Declaration of missing person to be dead and death found in court proceedings is entered in the central register on the basis of a final judgement.
