In addition to the valid travel document referred to in Article 7 of Aliens Act, all aliens must hold a visa or a residence permit to be able to enter the Republic of Slovenia, unless otherwise provided for by the law or international agreement. Aliens that are not required under the law to hold a permit for the entry into the country (visa or residence permit) may remain in the Republic of Slovenia for a maximum of 90 days in a period of 6 months. A visa is issued upon the request of an alien if the latter holds a valid travel document and if there are no other reasons provided for by the law for the refusal of entry into the country. Aliens must obtain a visa prior to the entry into the country. In principle, the visas are issued by the diplomatic missions and consular posts of the Republic of Slovenia abroad.
Specific conditions applying to the citizens of the EU Member States:
Citizens of the EU Member States are not required to hold a visa for the entry into the Republic of Slovenia. Also, they are not required to hold a residence permit during the first three months following their entry into the Republic of Slovenia; however, after the initial three months, they are obliged to apply for a residence permit with an Administrative Unit (see Residence permit - Application of aliens for a residence permit).
